AANP Molecular Neuropathology Course

The American Association of Neuropathologists Molecular Neuropathology Course: Central Nervous System Tumors  is a regularly scheduled series that occurs the 2nd week of the month alternating between Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Eastern Time/12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Central Time/11:00 am – 12:00 pm Mountain Time/10:00 am – 11:00 am Pacific Time. Sessions are accessed via Path LMS. Leomar Ballester, MD, PhD, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Cristiane Ida, MD, Mayo Clinic, are the Co-Course Directors.

To register for this activity, please go to https://aanp.memberclicks.net/molecularneuropath. The cost is as follows:

  • AANP Members: $50.00
  • AMP Members: $50.00
    • Discount Code required; code sent to all AMP members. Reach out to [email protected] with questions.
  • Non-Members: $100.00
  • All Trainees (AANP Members and Non-Members): $0.00

Please Note: There is a delay between registering for the activity and receiving access in Path LMS (www.pathlms.com/aanp). You must be registered prior to 4:00 PM Mountain Time the day before a session in order to guarantee receipt of access information.

Each month registrants can expect to receive an e-mail with access instructions and the session flyer. Please check your "Spam" or "Junk" e-mail folder for the e-mails. Even if you don't receive the email, once registered, you should always have access the the monthly session in Path LMS.

Please note that only the live session is accredited for CME; credit may not be claimed for watching the recording.

Certificate of Completion: Following the in-person course in Minneapolis on June 18, 2025, an overall evaluation will be disseminated to all Molecular Neuropathology Course attendees – whether an individual solely attended the regularly scheduled series sessions August through May and/or the in-person ancillary meeting. The overall evaluation will require attendees to attest to whether they attended or watched at least 8 of the 10 sessions that occurred between August 2024 and May 2025. With this self-attestation, individuals who attended (or watched) 8/10 sessions will be issued a Certificate of Completion electronically. Given the evaluation will remain open through 8/31/2025, certificates will be issued in September 2025.

2025 Ancillary Meeting

In addition to the regularly scheduled series, there will be an in-person Molecular Neuropathology Course: CNS Tumors pre-conference symposium at the AANP 101st Annual Meeting in Minneapolis. Annual Meeting registrants may register for and attend the symposium at no additional charge. Registrants of the regularly scheduled series will receive the audio/slide recording regardless of whether or not they are able to attend the symposium in person. More information regarding the in-person course will be announced in conjunction with registration launch for the 101st Annual Meeting in Q4 2024. Please note: Registration for this in-person course is separate from registration for the regularly scheduled series.

 Accreditation Information

Overall Learning Objectives:
  1. Explain how to select appropriate molecular tests and interpret the results.
  2. Recognize diagnostically relevant molecular biomarkers.
  3. Describe clinicopathologic scenarios that require molecular biomarker testing.
  4. Discuss technical aspects of various molecular testing platforms including next-generation sequencing, genome-wide chromosomal microarray, and global DNA methylation analysis.
  5. Explain how to interpret molecular test results and generate integrated histo-molecular diagnosis for CNS tumors.
